This 20,000 sq. ft. Pine Grove, Ambulatory Surgical Center new construction completed in an aggressive 12-month schedule features an energy efficient insulated concrete form (ICF) construction. Creatively setting the two-level structure into the side of a hill makes effective use of an otherwise undesirable building site.

A 13” thick slab on deck at the operating rooms prevents any vibrations during surgical procedures. Carefully selected anti-microbial sheet vinyl flooring and epoxy paints create a beautiful yet functional finished face for the state-of-the-art surgical center.

Wesbury’s new $3.5 million Memory Support Center was built adjacent and is connected via hallway to their existing nursing care facilities. The center is configured into three areas with access/exit controls.

The 30,000 sq. ft., single story wood frame structure houses three brick paved open air courtyards, 2 activity/dining areas, 1 multi-purpose room, a 20 bed skilled care area, a 15 bed assisted living area, an adult daycare area, and a covered porte cochere.

The trees in the courtyards were so large a crane had to be used to lift them over the roof. The project was completed in 13 months and is just one of the many projects Associated Contractors Inc. has completed for one of the largest employers and elderly care providers in western Pennsylvania.

Highly known and recommended “Orthopedic Associates” needed additional work area and upgrading, to meet their growing needs. Extensive upgrading and renovations were done at their existing two-story, 12,000 S.F. facility, this provided them with the modern facility that they needed to compete in today’s market.

All of the renovations were completed, while keeping the facility open and running at all times and within the original time schedule.

This 13,300 sq. ft. addition to Meadville Medical Center Grove Street facility included 29 private and semi-private recovery rooms, family waiting areas, private conference rooms, anesthesia prep rooms, and isolation recovery rooms.

Prior to the start of construction, ACI coordinated with state and local officials to prepare a design acceptable by the DEP, due to an existing stream that runs under the new building and the existing hospital. In addition to the new building, ACI renovated the existing lobby, physical therapy, and built two new state-of-the-art operating rooms.

This work was completed while MMC continued to function in the adjacent operating rooms. ACI scheduled this work with MMC and the city officials so that there would not be any interruptions to their operating procedures while maintaining public safety and egress from the building.

Through communication and coordination between ACI, MMC, State and local authorities, and the public ACI was able to complete this project before the scheduled completion date

Client:   Liberty Street Medical Arts Building

This 33,000 sq. ft. Liberty Street Medical Arts office building was attached to an existing older hospital. Floor levels did not line up, and routes from the existing structure had to be modified. Mechanical systems were all separate, a function of the hospital’s desire to sell the offices to the tenants in the future.

Some of the space was not rented at time of contract, and plumbing locations not known. As the project progressed, physicians signed leases and suite design was initiated.

Coordination of details was critical to maintaining the hospitals and doctors schedules. Finally, the hospital’s national accreditation review, held every three years, was underway during construction.

Both Associated Contractors Inc., and the hospital’s extensive safety programs routinely came under strenuous third party inspection. Both repeatedly were successful and the hospital received a favorable review from the accreditation agency.

Associated Contractors Inc., was able to complete this project without disrupting the normal activities of the Greenville Clinic. We finished two months ahead of schedule and $164,000 under budget.

The secret? The owners called us early enough in the design stages so that our costing expertise was useful to the team. Associated Contractors Inc., worked with the architect closely and monitored design and budgetary goals, always planning for the most efficient ways to approach the project.

The results speak for themselves, according to Bob Fisher, office manager at Greenville Clinic. “We have a quality building finished ahead of schedule and under budget, thanks to ACI”, Fisher said.
